longines evidenzaThe earliest beginnings of the Longines company can be found in 1832, when Auguste Agassiz made a decision that significantly affected the future development of the Saint-Imier valley, where he founded a watchmaker's company. Agassiz starts to buy watch parts that are then assembled at home by his employees. In 1852 he finds a capable successor in his nephew Ernest Francillon. Ernest Francillon moves all the miscellaneous tasks of watch production "under one roof" thus founding one of the first watchmaker's factories - Longines - called after the parcel of land on which it had been built.

Since 1867 all movements coming from this factory are branded with the Longines logo - a winged sandglass. As a matter of curiosity, the winged sandglass was registered as a trademark on May 27 1889 at 16 o'clock in the afternoon. In the official record of the Federal office of intellectual property is the Longines logo listed under number 2684. Although the design has since evolved, this logo has remained the basic symbol of the oldest registered trademark of the Swiss watch making industry.

longines lindberghDuring the years that have passed since that time, the destiny of this firm was guided by research works and inventiveness in all branches of time measuring: navigation, sports, technology, construction. Among the stopwatches used at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 are also the Longines stopwatches with an accuracy of 1/5 of a second.

The Swiss aviation pioneer Walter Mittelholzer lands in Egypt wearing a Longines wristwatch. He sets out from there to explore the mysterious mountains of middle Africa. The Famous Norwegian researcher Roald Amundsen flew 2000 km over the polar ice sheet with a Norge airship. Charles Lindbergh - famous for the first nonstop flight over the Atlantic in 1927 - takes off in New York and lands after 33 hours and 30 minutes in Paris. Shortly after that he creates his own air-navigation watch designs and sketches for the Longines brand.

The Longines brand has bet on the popularity of the retro style; the barrel-shaped case of this range is a good example of the company's strategy. A memorial to the legendary Charles Lindbergh is a range that holds his name in the same way as the Avigation range symbolizes the close connection of the Longines brand to aviation.
