The Jaeger-LeCoultre Company began writing its history in the Swiss canton Vaud, in Vallé de Joux, in 1833. Since the 16th century Huguenots sought there a sanctuary from religious oppression. In the out-of-the-way land, isolated then from the rest of the world for many winter months, they were bringing the arts of craftsmanship and watchmaking to perfection. They produced everything from playing appliances, toys and watch parts, to complete mechanical watches. Since 1883 this company's pioneers have lodged hundreds of patents - and in 1903 the thinnest pocket watch movement, only 1.38 mm thick, was created.

Reverso

The success that has helped most to render the Jaeger-LeCoultre trademark world-famous was a watch called Reverso.jaeger-le coultre reverso duo face

The uniqueness of this watch resides in the fact that its owner is displaying to the world two faces: its dial, and - when turned around - the case back. And this is possible even without unbuckling the watch and removing it from the wrist. The capability to turn the watch the dial down was originally designed to protect the crystal from impact when playing polo. The back case was then used as a protective shield. At least originally, as in the course of time, owners had begun to have the case back decorated too (and not only engraved, but also decorated with diamonds, emeralds and rubies).

Two dials has the Reverso Duoface range. The "faces" can show different time, which pleases not only the travelers. This model showed up for the first time in 1994.

Master Control

Although the Reverso is in some sense the flagship of the Jaeger-LeCoultre firm, the company can also vaunt their production of the "classic" wristwatch. The Master Control range is proof of that. All of this range's watches are subject to highly strenuous tests. They are tested in six different positions, exposed to different temperatures and shocks, their water-resistance inspected under the pressure of five bars, and there is no avoiding as well a strong magnetic field. Other wonderful examples of the Master Control range are Master Réveil and Master Memovox with a small, built-in alarm.

Atmos

The Jaeger-LeCoultre trademark is associated not only with wrist-watches, but also with table clocks. And now it is appropriate to mention those that are powered by atmospheric pressure. This is where their name has its origin - Atmos. The principle of these clocks lies in a hermetically closed case filled with a gas compound that expands and shrinks depending on the air temperature and air pressure. This energy is transferred to the mainspring that drives the balance with such effectiveness that a temperature change of one degree Celsius (within the range of 15 and 30 degrees Celsius) gives the movement energy to run for two days. To appreciate the subtleness of the energy transferred, you can imagine that 60 million Atmos clocks consume as much energy as a 15-Watt bulb.
